Harrop Wins Bob Speegle Super Slam Summit Award

Harrop Wins Bob Speegle Super Slam Summit Award

Edmonton, Alberta- February 14th, 2024- Wild TV, which is Numeris-rated as the most-watched, major outdoor programming provider in Canada*, announces that their content partner,Vanessa Harrop, co-host of Canada’s longest-running, independently produced television hunting series, Outdoor Quest TV, was recently awarded the Bob Speegle Super Slam Summit Award in the rifle category by Grand Slam Club/Ovis (GSCO) at the Safari Club International convention in Nashville. This award is named in honour of Dr. Robert Speegle, who is the first hunter to register two Super Slams, one with rifle and one with bow. This award recognizes the top overall North American trophy submitted with rifle as voted on by a GSCO committee. Harrop won the award for a muskox she took in 2022 with Canadian Wildlife Adventures in the Northwest Territories. The bull ranks number four overall in Boone and Crockett and number two in the Safari Club International rifle category. Harrop is the first woman to receive this prestigious award. In 2022, Harrop also became one of only 14 women to complete her Super 10 of North American big game.

Harrop states that while she is proud to be a woman who hunts, she doesn’t want it to define her. She is happy to just be called a hunter and these awards represent her hard work and dedication to our hunting heritage. Harrop is a late-onset hunter, going on her first big game hunt in 2005. Since then, she has hunted on five continents and taken several record-book animals. When she isn’t traveling to hunt, she is hunting in her home province of Alberta with her partner, T.J. Schwanky. One of Vanessa’s most cherished animals is a bighorn sheep taken on a DIY hunt just west of the couple’s home in Southern Alberta. Vanessa has also won numerous awards for her magazine writing and television episodes. Harrop hopes that other women can take inspiration from her journey, as she has from others that have gone before her.

Wild TV’s Vice President, Scott Stirling, comments, “On behalf of everyone at Wild TV, I want to congratulate Vanessa and the Outdoor Quest TV team on winning such a prestigious award. It’s a real testament to her dedication and passion to constantly learn and explore, to put in the consistent hard work and patience that it takes to be a hunter. Well-deserved! We are incredibly proud of her.”

About Outdoor Quest TV

Hosts Vanessa Harrop and T.J. Schwanky live by their motto “the hunt is about the journey,” and the series is a mix of DIY hunts around Alberta and destination hunts around the world. They incorporate the local culture and food into their hunts when they travel and they try to share affordable and unique destinations with their viewers. Harrop is an 18-year veteran on the series. She has hunted on five continents and recently just completed her Super 10 on North American game animals. Harrop and Schwanky’s mission is to educate and entertain. They don’t want to show people their hunts, they want to take them along and make the viewer feel like they are right there with them. Schwanky, who has hosted the series since its inception 25 years ago, has hunted on six continents and recently completed his Grand Slam of North American wild sheep, but he is the first to point out that he is most at home hunting in his backyard in Alberta.
